"Longview" is Green Day's first single. Released on February 1st, 1994 from the album Dookie. The music video to this song received heavy airplay on MTV. This song is what broke Green Day into the mainstream popularity.
The song, written by Billie Joe Armstrong, describes a boring day spent at home, doing nothing, smoking marihuana.
Mike Dirnt once stated that the bass line you hear in the beginning of the song was written one night when he was tripping acid. At the shows in the 21st Century World Tour, Billie Joe picks a random audience member to sing onstage.
