99 Revolutions is the eleventh track in Green Day's eleventh studio album and the finale of the trilogy, ¡Tré! Before the song was officially released, it was already featured as the end credits song in the film, The Campaign. Later on, the 99 Revolutions Tour to support the release of the ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy would be named after this song.
Song Meaning[]
A fight song mentioning the 99% to rebel against the 1%. The song starts off with the author, being in 99% seeing the world fall apart. He explains that the effects of small business being destroyed and people selling themselves out to corporations not only affects the current generation but also everyone in the future. The author wants to encourage people to go against the 1% controlling them, instead of continuing to worsen the suffering that they already have gone through.
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
There's a trouble in the air
A rumble in the streets
A "going out of business" sale
And a race to bankruptcy
It's not one to ninety-nine
It's ninety-nine to one
A common cause and a call to arms
For the health of our daughters and our sons
[Chorus]
It's ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
[Verse 2]
There's a rat in the company
A bailout on easy street
How the fuck did the working stiff
Become so obsolete?
Hit the lights and bang the drum
And let your flag unfold
'Cause history will prove itself
In the halls of justice and lost souls
[Chorus]
It's ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
[Bridge]
We live in troubled times
From the ghettos to an empty suburban home
We live in troubled times
And I'm ninety-nine percent sure that something's wrong
It's all wrong
[Chorus]
It's ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
Ninety-nine revolutions tonight
[Outro]
Nine! Nine! To one!
To one!
